Overview The original cover for 1992-2012, The Anthology by Underworld was originally designed to be a CD. I found the original design to be very outdated and not representative of the music. The messaging that I want this packaging to convey is the repetitive nature of the music and the trance-like flow state that can be reached from listening to this type of music. Typography For the typography, I wanted it to emulate an analogue technological feel. I wanted the type to feel derived from coding, whilst also having a vintage feel to reflect how long-standing Underworld has been in the music world. Cover The repeated pattern on the cover represents the repeated beats that are present in all of the songs in the album. The type on the back signifies the use of lyrics in the songs, as they are used to contribute another layer of sound rather than meaning through the lyrics. Sleeves and inner sleeves The sleeves contain blurred imagery of Underworld, to represent the transient state reached when listening to this music. Imagery of Underworld is used to showcase them as pioneers of the tech music world, that they are now known as people alongside their music. The inner sleeves are a bright neon pink as neon colours are often associated with this music genre and also carries on the motif of being in an enhanced transient state. Records, slip matt and labels The records are clear to show the slip matt through them when they are placed on a record player. This then distorts the image once the record is playing to carry on the same transient motif. The labels are laser cut and use the same paper stock as the cover to carry the design feature throughout the packaging. Deliverables 02 and 03 The USB and lighter tins feature the same design as the cover for the packaging, creating a cohesive look for all of the deliverables.
